Elf Calling

Terence McKenna refers to a certain kind of psychedelic invocation as elf calling. A very weird argument that I am slowly formulating here is that there is a through-line between the elf of childhood and the fae, the green, the mushroom people, the machine elves of outré psychedelia. A yet further link may be found to the fairy/demon/familiar of ye old witchcraft. I don’t know what this means. Are these entities merely projections? Or do they have some independence, existing outside of the psyche? This is the kind of question that the extimate psyche makes impossible to answer; inside/outside divisions of self begin to fade away, revealing that the (s)elf, itself—as Passoa argues—is imaginary, lacking clear boundaries. The inside is the outside.
